Difference Between Spiders and Tarantulas

Tarantulas are a type of spider. They belong to the family Theraphosidae which includes 900 species of tarantula.

Spiders are divided into two main groups, the Araneomorphs or True Spider forms and the Mygalomorphs Tarantula form. The main difference is in the way the fangs are arranged. Araneomorphs have fangs that point diagonally and bite in a pinching motion. Mygalomorphs have fangs that point downward, and bite in a stabbing motion.

Araneomorphs include most spiders you find around, for example the orbweavers, jumping spiders, wolf spiders, grass spiders, and cobweb spiders are all araneomorphs.

Mygalomorphs include the tarantulas, trapdoor spiders, mouse spiders, purseweb spiders, and baldlegged spiders.

Chilean Rose Tarantula

Rose has been a fancy for women since the age of Renaissance and way back.

I just don't know if they will still fancy a rose if it's a Tarantula. :D

The Chilean Rose Tarantula is one of the most imported arachnid in the world today. The trading has reached even the household who wants these spiders as pets. This tarantulas is larger than most species. They are considered docile and are easy to take care.

I will bet that the Chilean Rose is always present in any big pet store. They are almost always found in any pet shop. It can also be found in two different color phases. It could be a tan/brown with pink hairs and carapace while the other one is  red-haired. There are lots of pet stores that sell this species.

Some says that the Chilean rose is one of best starter species if you would like to grow Tarantulas. If you want this to be a hobby, you can always start with this species.

Chilean Rose can be found in Bolivia, Northern Chile, and Argentina. It could be found in habitats that has the same aura with deserts and scrubland. This species are terestrial and consume spiderlings, pinhead crickets or creepers. They also eat insects or mouse. It could grow of up to 4.5 to 5.5 inches. It has a slow growth speed. Try not to power feed these guys as their lifespan become shorter. They can live at 70 to 85 degree Fahrenheit. Consider a 75 to 80% humidity level for this species. It is said that all tarantulas that have at least a 3-inch leg measurement may drink from a shallow, wide water dish.

The spiderlings can live in a 5 or 10-gallon tank. It is advisable that the floor space is wider than the height of the would-be-home of these tarantulas.

You can put plants, log, or cork bark on the aquarium / housing. A substrate of 2 to 3 inches of peat moss or potting soil is a must for the Chilean Rose Tarantula. You may put decorations that will surely not harm your spiders or you may not put any at all.

They are also called as Chilean Flame Tarantula, Chilean Rose Hair Tarantula, Chilean Fire Tarantula, Chilean Rose Haired Tarantula,  Chilean Common Tarantula, and/or Chilean Fire Rose Tarantula, Chilean Rose Tarantula or Grammostola Rosea.

Mexican Blood Leg Tarantula

Labeled as one of the easiest best beginner Tarantulas for spider-owner wannabes, then the Mexican Bloodleg Tarantula is just for you.

This is considered one of the most popular in the market due to its characteristics. A combination of colors and gentleness is what Blood Leg has. This is an excellent choice as pet. They are considered docile and they don't flick urticating hairs that often compared to other tarantulas.

They have slow growth ~just like slow metabolism for some humans. But due to their ability of slow growth, their lifespan are one of the longest. Unfortunately, this species are rare so new beginners won't be able to buy one just like that. I believed that they produce less offsprings than other species. Also, captive breeders are not frequent. That's actually sad.

Mexican BLoodleg Tarantula tend to have higher prices than other Tarantulas because they are lesser in population than most normal breeds. It is said that this species is new to Tarantula breeders.

They can be found in the Pacific side of Southern Mexico mostly in deserts and scrubland areas. They are terrestrial type but will burrow to some extent.

Their diet consisted of pinhead crickets, cockroaches, butterflies, and other insects. They can grow of up to 3.5 to 4 inches in size. They have slow growth speed but it makes up for their long lifespan. They can be housed in a 75 to 90 degree Fahrenheit. Humidity level should be 70 to 75 perecnt. It is said that tarantulas who have at least a 3-inch leg measurement may drink from a shallow, wide water dish.

They are considered docile and calm. Housing spiderlings can live in a clear plastic deli-container with air holes while the adults can survive in a 5 to 10-gallon tank.

Floor space is more important than height.
